Researchers from the Baker Heart & Diabetes Institute in Australia regenerated damaged pancreatic cells with FDA-approved drugs used to treat rare types of cancer. The cells were taken from a 7-year-old and a 61-year-old with type 1 diabetes. These cells successfully produced insulin in response to rising glucose levels. The research will continue in preclinical trials.
