With tremendous empathy for their families, Vertex Pharmaceuticals announced two deaths in their VX-880 trial, including Brian Shelton, the first trial participant. While these deaths were not related to VX-880, further details have not been released out of respect for their privacy. The trial has been paused briefly for further investigation. The VX-264 trial will continue as planned. People with type 1 diabetes will always be grateful to these participants for contributing to this groundbreaking research.
