Sana Biotechnology has taken donated islet cells and re-engineered them to be safely transplanted into a person with type 1 diabetes, eliminating the need for daily immunosuppression therapy.
Sana was able to edit the donated islet cells so they can produce insulin in the recipient without the need for daily immunosuppression therapy.
Within four weeks of transplantation, the cells remained healthy and continued to produce insulin.
