On December 22, 2025, the FDA approved the first pill form of semaglutide to help with weight loss. This makes it the first GLP-1 medication for obesity that comes as a pill, instead of an injection.
The medication uses the same active ingredient as Wegovy and Ozempic. The pill is expected to be available in early 2026.
This approval puts Novo Nordisk ahead of other companies that are still working on weight-loss pills. The starting price is expected to be about $149 per month.
Can people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes get ahold of this medication? Time will tell.
