It hasn’t been a good year for some CGM technology.
Both Libre and Dexcom are facing lawsuits linking faulty sensors with deaths in people with diabetes.
- Libre 3 and Libre 3+: The FDA has linked seven deaths and more than 700 serious injuries across the globe. Abbott says they have fixed the problem in manufacturing — but all model numbers 72081-01, 72080-01, 78768-01, 78769-01 should be discarded. Abbott should give you free replacement sensors.
- Dexcom G7: A bit more complicated, the FDA has linked at least 13 deaths to the G7 since its release in 2023. Dexcom says it has addressed the issues in manufacturing.
